Hi everyone
Winter is coming to Tokyo, Christmas is in the department stores,
sabbatical is over, the Fulbright is spent, the sushi is eaten, and
we're packing for southern California! Some last snaps from an
adventure we'll always remember:
We're sipping the last nectar of beauty and friendship in Japan, and
looking forward to seeing you all soon. Hope you're doing well, and
happy holidays!

Are you an Amazon addict? I confess to being one and I know it's because the site makes it so easy to find and buy more books than I'll ever have time to read. To complement my addiction, I was intrigued to find LibraryLookup, a page containing 900 bookmarklets leading to individual libraries. A bookmarklet isn't something you click on; instead, you drag it to the toolbar of your browser and click on it there.
As it happens, the SDSU library is represented on this page and I now have its bookmarklet perched on my toolbar. Now, whenever I'm on Amazon (or any site that has a book ISBN as part of the URL) one click on the bookmarklet opens up a window into SDSU's PAC site and tells me if the book is there in the stacks. I don't know if this is going to reduce my Amazon bill... but it's cool!

An alumnus inspired by Donn's interview with Distance-Educator.Com.
----------------------
Hi Donn,
I read today in Distance Educator the interview with you about the new MA Online Program. Congratulations! It's been a long way for you guys and I'm sure that the new program will be as successful as the "classic" Certificate.
Your interview inspired me to browse through the Edtec website again and I saw with one eye crying, one eye laughing how many interesting new topics the Edtec faculty covers in their various courses. As you know, I'm still pondering the idea of going back to school some day although I have no specific news to report. As a matter of fact, I like my current job a lot because it provides me with the opportunity to explore some theories and ideas on my own (mostly EPSS-related these days)--another type of learning experience. Besides, I wouldn't want to leave Berlin anytime soon.
However, the interview also reminded me of an older idea that I once had (and probably many other alumni, too), which is that it would be great if the faculty would share smaller portions of their knowledge and experience (e.g. online workshops, virtual presentations etc.) on specific topics. I wouldn't be able to attend an entire class but I certainly could make time for a several hours session, a weekend event or maybe even a week-long, part-time intensive study group (e.g., every evening 1-2 hrs for one week or so). Most of it could be accomplished online these days and I'm pretty sure that there is a market there for these kinds of focused sessions (market in the sense of people paying for it). The big professionals associations do this (e.g. the ASTD webinars) but my most trusted source, the Edtec department, unfortunately not.
Maybe a new project to target?
Kind regards,
Chris
